This is a compilation post of some of the previous discussion I've put out into the world about a possible Network Of Our Own / Fandom Social Network. I'm NO3 nonnie in these threads:
first FFA entry - 11/25/18
second FFA entry - 12/8/18
third FFA entry - 12/9/18
I made this demo app. (Heroku assigns urls at random, hence my pseud).
A run down of currently built features is available here and the repo is available here
I'm reaching out to an attorney the EFF put me in touch with. My first draft of a list of questions for the attorney is available here
Logged in or anonymous questions here or on the googledocs are welcome. Anyone is welcome to make a test account on the demo app and try things out.

Date: 2018-12-16 06:27 am (UTC)The whole point of reblogs is that the author allows other users to put the content on their page in exchange of visibility. It's part of their page now.
What you're proposing is that other users would have the ability to edit/delete content on my page - without any notice or warning. (Changing whatever text was in the post to "This post was deleted" is editing)
It's unacceptable. People should have full control over their personal page - the only other people who should have the ability to edit/delete any parts of the user's page is administration, in punishment for violating the TOS. Reblogging is not violating the TOS, it's basic feature.
Most of the people I know use the reblogging as a way to archive things. What is the point of such an archive if everything can be snatched away at any moment? It discourages reblogs in the first place, which is counter-productive to fandom experience.
What about people who add to the text post - and add more text than there was originally, like it happens with fandom meta posts? Deleting the original text from the reblog chain would derive the reblog from valuable context, and the author of additional content might not be able to restore it.
Of course authors might not want to be assotiated with the post anymore. It's understandable. Just give them the ability to "orphan" a post, so that it would change their name in the reblog chain to something like "orphaned". It would allow them to not be bothered by the post and wouldn't violate other people's personal pages.
